DAY three of the Australian Open looms as the day of the mismatch. There’s a host of big names aiming for a quick progression to the third round — and on paper there should be few problems.
World number one Andy Murray (who faces world No. 156 Andrey Rublev), Roger Federer (world No. 197 Noah Rubin), Bernard Tomic (world No. 103 Victor Estrella Burgos), Nick Kyrgios (world No. 85 Andreas Seppi) and Kei Nishikori (world No. 71 Jeremy Chardy) were all expected to make short work of their opponents.
So the interest may lie in the hopes of local darlings Ashleigh Barty (who plays Shelby Rogers) and Alex De Minaur (Sam Querrey) pulling off upsets against their much higher-ranked American opponents.
